These stamps were created to honor the Haudenosaunee's historic connection to lacrosse. I chose 4 concepts these to represent the legacy, culture, evolution, and icons that are related to the sport.
Legacy: The Bear
This stamp illustrates the "First Lacrosse Game", a legend where a game of lacrosse played long ago, pitching the land animals against the aviary animals. The bear was one of the captains.
Culture: Headpieces
Each of the 6 nations of the Haudenosaunee have their own headpieces, illustrated here
Evolution: Equipment
With the long history, the sticks have evolved over time.
Icon: Lyle Thompson
Lyle Thompson is one of the greatest to ever do it in the sport. He represents the Haudenosaunee in the World Lacrosse Championship ever year.
Process
My initial iteration of this project featured a different art style. While I like the way these looked, I felt a more realistic art style would better represent the topic.
